Spring 2022 Course Evaluations
What aspect(s) of the course or instruction could be improved?
I would have liked to hear more about professor Ahearn’s experience in this area - as part of class discussions My only suggestion would be to include more of the case take aways in the slide shows that are given during class but overall it was a great class that did not need much improvement. I don’t think this class needs improvement none Nothing - Professor Ahearn is the kindest professor I have had at SULS. This class is perfect as is. I wish it had been in person, but that’s all. None. None - great class and great professor. A clearer syllabus. While it was clear what cases need to be read for different topics, it was hard to know which specific cases we need to read for each class. A way that this could be improved is sending out an email after each class informing students which cases need to be read. None. Would have loved to have taken this class in person! There should be two options at Suffolk for disability laws relating to minors: One based on this model, and another (Prof. Ahearn, don’t mean to volunteer you for both, but you’d be awesome!), and another focusing exclusively on IDEA with slightly more depth, worth four credits. The first, the two or three credit, would go roughly like this course but perhaps with slightly less depth on IDEA and more breadth on the other topics (emerging state bullying laws; mental health treatment, consent, admission, commitment, discipline for students without disabilities). The four credit IDEA course would be fabulously taught by Professor Ahearn but would go, start to finish, all on SPED law. The sequence of IDEA topics would be the same, but again, just with a bit more time for depth on each, from eligibility/eval., to IEP and Team, to FAPE, placements, so on, and allowing for both more case law and more statutory interp.
