Spring 2022 Course Evaluations

In what way(s) did this course benefit your professional or intellectual development?

This is the area of law that I hope to practice. There are few courses that discuss materials that are focussed on children and education - I found this course to be extremely thorough and helpful. Professor Ahearn also offered many resources to build a "library" of our own. Closely related to education system I have a passion for special education and disability law, and this is the field which I hope to go into so not only did this class spark my personal interests but my professional ones as well. This was the first class I was able to take that specifically aligned with my interests so I found it extremely beneficial. This class was great for professional development because he taught a lot about what it would be like being an attorney in this field and how to represent clients in these situations. We learned lawyer skills that will be relevant in practice. - It expanded my horizons and allowed me to explore an area of law I’m interested in but don’t intend on practicing in. Prof. Ahearn did an incredible job showing real world applications of the theories and doctrines we were learning. I feel that if I was to have an internship in the field this summer or next fall I would be really well situated to contribute. Additionally, all the cases we learned about This class has opened my eyes to a whole new career option. Even without previous engagement with this kind of law, I feel that based on this class I am prepared for a position in education law. An deeper understanding of the content, with an eye towards what was useful and currently applicable. I really liked how the class was half practical as well because I feel prepared to go into this field of law if that is where my path takes me. I certainly appreciate special ed law way more than I did previously and would consider practicing in that area in the future. Immeasurably. Very practical examples and skills were on point. There was no extra fluff which I also really appreciated. Introduced a new subject area in an approachable and interesting manner.
