Spring 2022 Course Evaluations
What aspect(s) of the course or instruction could be improved?
None The PowerPoints were a great add from last semester. I really liked those. They really helped as reference points. While I loved every bit of this course, the only suggestion I would make would be to post class slides before class. I like to use PowerPoint slides as a sort of outline and fill in additional information from lecture, which is easier to do when you have that outline ahead of time and you aren’t rushing to create it while also listening and taking notes. The syllabus was not followed at all, the professor usually just emailed us the assigned readings for that week which made planning ahead difficult I think professor Dyment clearly knows the law and probably does top notch work for his clients. Although I would probably love working for or with Professor, I think Professor could improve his teaching style modestly. For example, I think professor Dyment would be much more effective if he broke down the concepts in a "brick by brick" approach (he may feel like he did and maybe after reviewing for the exam I will think differently). The syllabus wasn’t completely useless because everything on there was covered but nonetheless it was not covered in the layout presented and at times, such as the beginning of the course, I felt like I didn’t know what Professor Dyment was trying to teach. However, throughout the semester I think Professor improved drastically. By going over concepts and presenting them through new lenses/problems I was able to learn the points he was trying to make. I enjoyed this class and taxes is not something I would consider a entertaining subject area for myself. Although the course was hard to follow at the beginning, I think I did come away as a better student more prepared to be a real lawyer and actually make an impact on clients Some of the materials in the text book were confusing or outdated. Professor Dyment is extremely brilliant and sometimes, unintentionally, he can breeze through concepts that are challenging and assumes that students know all of the lingo associated with tax. I did not love the textbook we used for this course. I know there may not be a ton of options out there for SALT textbooks, though. I also feel like the material would have been easier to learn if the class was spread out over two days--that way one class could be dedicated to learning and the other to review.
