Spring 2022 Course Evaluations
In what way(s) did this course benefit your professional or intellectual development?
I learned how to write appellate breifs and then argue them Appellate work is interesting to me now! I thought Justice Meade’s behind-the-scene practice stories and the guest lecturers were particularly helpful. The course had a memo and oral argument - both essential skills for appellate practice. I feel like we really developed these practical skills. As said above, the tips and pointers received from Justice Meade I will never forget. Helped me learn how to become a better advocate. Has made me much more comfortable in presenting my arguments to the court. Gave helpful feedback on argument strategy that I would not notice on my own. Appellate Practice benefitted my professional development by better preparing me to be a practicing professional. We not only learned how to go about an appeal, but we also learned important values in lawyering generally, like maintaining your reputation and becoming a person that the court trusts. Provided skills I will need in the future. I am doing litigation work, it was a great mock oral argument to come before real Appellate Justices. It is important for a student about to go into any legal work to know how the appellate process works. Made the class valuable
