Spring 2022 Course Evaluations

Below are the responses to the three open-ended questions asked regarding the instructor and the course. Please note, student responses have not been edited in any way. Blank pages indicate no response for that question. What aspect(s) of the course or instruction enhanced your learning? I really enjoyed how friendly professor meade is. I did not feel intimidated or embarrassed with asking questions The lectures and watching the Oral Arguments. The work of actually writing a brief and doing an oral argument. Justice Meade made the course really fun by telling us so many anecdotal stories about his experiences as a DA, at the AGO, and now on the Appeals Court. I really enjoyed these ’real world’ examples and perspectives. For example, he told us stories about how during an oral argument when the Justice asks you a question you stop and answer immediately. This is something I may not have known or may have tried to get away with sidestepping the question, but he gave real-world examples of why you must stop and answer. I valued this ’real world’ knowledge. Justice Meade has a wealth of knowledge from his considerable experience and just listening to his stories and personal tips were invaluable. The anecdotal stories helped put the content into perspective. Professor Meade’s lectures and opportunities to demonstrate my knowledge greatly enhanced my learning. I particularly felt that the opportunity to moot arguments in class enhanced both my learning and my confidence. The course material was relevant subject matter not covered in any other class. The Oral argument was a practical experience that truly allowed me to practice my advocacy. Judge Meade is irreplaceable as far as his knowledge in appellate work in this state. Even if students retain just some tips here and there is enough because of the source of the information.
