OLDFall 2022 Law School Course Evaluations
What aspect(s) of the course or instruction could be improved? Nothing! Professor Glannon is great!
If the syllabus had dates, that would be easier to follow. Otherwise, I would not change anything. Sometimes the professor would entertain a lot of questions and hypos, and I would have preferred a more organized and structured use of time, perhaps with power points. The quizzes! They aren ' t about determining if we understand the information, they aren ' t about gauging or improving our critical thinking skills, they are a purely sadistic exercise. The goal of the questions is to trick us. When I read the syllabus ahead of term, I was happy we would have quizzes, thinking that they would potentially help raise my grade or help me determine what I needed to focus on in my review time. This was not at all the case. The quizzes will bring my grade down. I performed better on the midterm than I did on his multiple choice quizzes. For reference, I am not someone who struggles with multiple choice exams. I passed my professional licensing boards (75 select-all-that-apply critical thinking multiple choice questions) in 30 minutes. Further, they in no way helped me to figure out which topics I needed to study further. I thoroughly enjoyed Professor Glannon ' s class, he is brilliant, engaging, extremely knowledgable about civ pro, but I will never take another class with him again if I have the choice solely because of those quizzes. Which is a shame. I think the reading volume was a tad high and repetitive in spots. We often had to read about the same topic in both the Coursebook and the E&E. I would make the E&E reading optional and use it primarily for the example problems. The syllabus was a bit difficult to follow, so I relied heavily upon the emails that Professor Glannon sent after each class telling us how to prepare for the next class. I think the syllabus could be improved by adding dates and adjusting as necessary. I believe that the professor can drop the lowest quiz grade to help the student or extra credit. The quizzes were extraordinarily difficult. At times they felt like a test on reading comprehension more than on the material but I did appreciate them as a tool for gauging my understanding throughout the course. The syllabus, while clear on what we need to do for readings, does not follow a timeline on when things are due. This makes it difficult to plan out my weeks work when I will receive another email from the professor with more reading to do than was sent out in the email the day before on what to expect. It made it difficult to plan the work week I sometimes had trouble determining what reading was expected to be done for each class because it could change to include 2-3 topics listed on the syllabus. There was at least one week where everyone had expected to read a particular section only to learn the day before class by email that we were expected to read something else as well. Preparing all of the reading between Thursday and Friday could also be challenging, especially when there was a quiz the same evening.
