OLDFall 2022 Law School Course Evaluations

Some of her classes brought a practitioner in a field which was incredibly helpful and a great opportunity to see how our knowledge and training apply in the real world. I think that Professor Burstein has such a passion for the law which is amazing. She gave us real life examples and exposed us to real, current documents, that we would likely never see until a job. She has such a strong passion and intellect for patent law and design law which is very impressive because that is such a difficult area. However, it is hard for most students to appreciate this and all her strengths when she would simply be such a rude professor. She treated us like we were beneath her and we would ask her for examples and she would tell us thats not her job and we should ask our TA. It got to the point in the semester when we wouldn ' t even have questions to ask her because we knew she would either make us feel bad or we honestly just didn ' t know what to say. We have a very vocal section in 1A, yet that was the only class that very rarely people spoke unless cold called on. I think she has a lot of potential to grow as an amazing teacher and she seems like a great person but this semester of civil procedure was less than ideal. Our section was very disappointed with this professor, to the point that we had to seek help from other professors/students/TAs. Slides contained very little information about cases other than the title and a picture. Slides weren’t posted until over a week later so studying was hindered. Politics got too in the way, she would pause recordings and go on side rants which were confusing when trying to review This professor puts every student at a disadvantage going forward. Do not allow other students to suffer and struggle to grasp this material by allowing this to continue. Professor Burstein has no respect for her students. I have never felt such disrespect from a professor before. She speaks to us as if we are children and has intentionally mislead us on many occasions. She constantly compares us to her classes at her previous school in Oklahoma. Additionally, in my other courses this week, our professors gave us time at the beginning of class to complete these surveys. They said they were asked by administration to give us the time while they stepped out of the room. Professor Burstein ended class early one day, but did not mention anything about the surveys and did not leave the room for us to complete them. She simply said class ended early and that the rest of class time was to be used for in-class office hours. I really want to like her. A lot of the class wrote her off sometime in early to mid October, especially after the midterm and I kept trying to give her the benefit of the doubt and make the most out of class, but there are days when it seems like she ' s just done with us. Also, I understand that patents are her focus area, but they when every hypo is a patent and the only slide that she has is a patent or similarly related picture with no text, or just the rule itself makes class draining.
