OLDFall 2022 Law School Course Evaluations
Additional comments Professor Burstein is very condescending. It truly feels like her goal of her cold calls is to embarrass the student in front of the entire class. Whenever a student asked a question she routinely could answer the question in a condescending manner and frankly was very rude to students for no reason at all. Her teaching methods could be clearer and more efficient. The way she organized the course was confusing and class time often felt like a waste due to how poorly she explained the material. with professor Burstein, you get the feeling she does not really want to teach 1Ls. She is responsive to emails, however most questions are answered with go ask the TA. Honestly, Nathan is the best part of this class, without his review I ' m not sure that I would understand the class at all. The school should be paying him to teach the class. I do not think that her expectations for the exam are clear at all. Additionally, I do not think it is fair how a book citation is weighed as much as an actual case or statute citation. Also, the page limit is extremely tough. Everything I know about civil procedure, I learned from the TA, Nathan Andrews. He was much more effective at teaching than was Professor Burstein. Nathan Andrews the TA is the main reason that people are passing this class, he was amazing and incredibly helpful his slides cleared everything up, he is the biggest help and should be paid more!! Professor Burnstein is by far the worst professor I have ever had in my 5 years of higher education. Professor Burnstein was routinely rude to students who asked questions and always was very condescending when answering student questions. Professor Burnstein often went on long tangents about patents and IPs that rarely had any relevance to Civil Procedure. Furthermore, she was never delivered the material in a useful manner, and pretty much everything I learned about Civil Procedure was through the TA. Nathan was an amazing TA and really helped fill the large gap created by how poorly professor Burnstein delivered the material. Professor Burstein was very nice in the first few weeks of class, but during midterms she began to get very short and harsh with us when we need clarification. Professor Burnstein is very nice however I don ' t enjoy her instruction style and I believe it is detrimental to students learning. She rarely if ever provides helpful answers to questions, more often than not brushing them off and relating them to topics that do not help in learning Civil Procedure. When questions are asked they leave students more confused then before they asked them. Additionally, she quickly goes over the required reading and leaves too much time at the end for questions that no one will ask because she does not answer them in an efficient way. She constantly says everything assigned is fair game for the exam but them fails to go over a lot of the material even when asked by the students. Professor Burnstein is very smart and because of this she should not be teaching a 1L civil procedure course.
