OLDFall 2022 Law School Course Evaluations

What aspect(s) of the course or instruction could be improved? Its feeling rushed at the end of the semester

I would have liked more precedent documents and examples for us to see. I think I had a tough time just talking about what a provision should look like without actually seeing what the Professor wanted from us. The only thing I believe could be improved is the schedule to more accurately reflect the class progression. For example, at times we were in week X for the semester, but were only in week Y for the class material, but were going over homework from week Z. So, sometimes it was hard to keep up with where we were in class, although Prof. Ferrey does a good job of summarizing the agenda for that day ' s class and then for the next class. The professor disagreed with the book constantly which made it difficult to determine which method to follow when working through the assignments. The final project which will take well over 20 hours of preparation was not even discussed until the week of Thanksgiving and we finally were ready to start it on the last day of class. Given that the assignment can theoretically be worked on beginning from halfway in the semester it would have been helpful if I could have worked towards parts of the assignment earlier. Assignment 4 was a challenge for me. I wonder if it can be pulled forward so that it is not so close to finals time. Or if it can be pared back a little bit so that it is not as complex. While I do love a good challenge, and I manage my time well, the topic was so complex, and the pressure of incoming finals really dampened my enthusiasm for this particular assignment. While I do appreciate putting what we learned into practice and working through a real-world example, and while I do appreciate Professor Ferrey ' s enthusiasm for the topic of energy, I would politely ask him to re-review his materials (videos, papers, etc.) for assignment 4. And view them not from his expert perspective but from a student ' s perspective, new to the energy world. It was quite daunting, for me, at least. Again, my recommendation would be to keep the assignment but move it up a few weeks. Or to pare it back slightly in terms of complexity. Otherwise, I would not change a thing about this course. I think the second and fourth graded assignments were really quite challenging, especially the last graded assignment. I think Prof. Ferrey might overestimate students ' abilities to put these assignments together (in a reasonable amount of time), they truly were extremely difficult, time-consuming assignments that go beyond our understanding. I understand Prof. Ferrey has a strong personal interest in climate change/solar panels, but when the other transactional skills classes are doing the jet purchase agreement (our second assignment) as their final assignment, it seems unfair that the other sections are a bit easier. I just believe the 4th assignment should be simplified so it ' s on par with the other transactional skills courses, because without a doubt we have the most challenging assignment.
