OLDFall 2022 Law School Course Evaluations

What aspect(s) of the course or instruction could be improved? Professor Lipshaw spends the full 1:50 minutes of class time speaking and reading from his notes. He does not pause for questions, and when questions are asked he shuts them down as quickly as possible to move on to the next topic. He at times told students to "google" questions they had or call them out for not paying attention despite asking clarifying questions on the material. He did not make himself available outside of class, he never advertised office hours or additional sessions, and there was no TA to take questions on his behalf. The only thing I would ask to improve is maybe a slightly longer break time because the class is in the middle of dinner time and 5 minutes to use the bathroom and get comfy to listen and reengage is hard. More engagement with the class during lectures. I think presentation of the materials => while the slides are well made, it is very difficult to follow it when it ' s all pictures and no words. I would ' ve benefited from either a 50-50 or 70-30 words-to-pictures format instead of 20-80 words-to-pictures Additionally, I feel like we focus on cases and their facts more than the actual topics and concepts. When hearing your drone on about the numerous and complicated facts of the case, I lose my attention and can ' t figure out what to write and what not to. You need to cut down on going over the case facts and give use a sparknotes version of the facts and instead focus on the concepts and the reasoning. Basically, use the cases as supplemental rather than teaching from them. Professor Lipshaw teaches by primarily reading verbatim from his notes. It would be helpful if these notes were provided prior to the class meeting. It was incredibly hard to follow and take notes when Professor Lipshaw would just quote a section of a statute without being able to actually reference what he was discussing. offer it in person. More discussion among students regarding each topic. I think we sometimes spent too much time on the particular facts of the cases. It will be great if backboard can show which quiz questions I did wrong. It will help us to focus on those sections that we did not learn well.
