OLDFall 2022 Law School Course Evaluations

once I think it was just challenging to cover all the necessary material thoroughly and efficiently in the semester time frame, so some things i wish we could have spent more time on. Maybe adding PowerPoints to be able to follow along with the material/ sometimes it is hard to hear and I lose track of where we are N/A - class was great. I think the class could be more engaged if the examples presented in the textbook were more engaging. More time reviewing older material - potentially offering new principle problems with material that ties into chapters pre-midterm Once we understand the key takeaway from each of the cases, instead of just the principal problem, I wish we did more hypos about different cases to ensure we fully understand the rule from the cases. The multiple choice questions were helpful after class I just wish there was a secondary source that the professor approved to get more practice on each of the topics. I think the course relies too much on cold calling. Case discussion tends to really involve only the person who is cold called and there is not much of a class discussion about the case until after we ' ve covered it. One of the most difficult and frustrating aspects of the course is that it is structured in such a way that in every class, the professor simply re-read every single case that was assigned and discussed the author ' s notes, rather than explaining the material in a different way or applying it to new fact patterns. I understand the benefit of reviewing the cases, but spending so much time reciting facts and not discussing the important takeaways has been frustrating and confusing. It is also difficult because of how quickly we are moving through so much material. At the beginning of the semester, Professor Griffith told us that she had never taught all of the property course in one semester and that it would likely be a lot of work and feel rushed; I was prepared to face this challenge but, nearing the final, I feel like I have to essentially re-learn all of the material using supplemental material because all we did was go through the cases, verbatim, and not understand how to apply the rules and connect them with one another. Additionally, when I have asked Professor Griffith about study strategies to approach the final, such as outlining and identifying the important holdings, she has not been helpful or even aware of the verbiage -- such as outline and IRAC. This is particularly stressful as it is our only closed-book exam. While I think Professor Griffith is a good person and is not intending to be unhelpful or not go in-depth with the material, I have found this class to be the most difficult -- not based on the content, but based on the teaching style. If the school could make this a year long course instead of a one semester one, we would have more time with the dense material and with Professor Griffith ' s wonderful company. The only area that could be improved would be extra help with rules against perpetuities. This topic
