OLDFall 2022 Law School Course Evaluations

What aspect(s) of the course or instruction could be improved? Could present the material in a more straightforward manner I wish he would explicitly tell us when to read because sometimes I come to class and he starts discussing a case I have not yet read because I did not know we were supposed to read. No negative comments. The one thing would be wearing a microphone, I sit in the back and it ' s sometimes hard to hear over peers typing / when watching recordings it ' s almost impossible to hear Professor Pizzano over the recording. Professor Pizzano is very kind and a people ' s person. Nonetheless, I wish he would have stayed on topic and was more organized. I wish he told us less stories and would have actually taught us the material. I will now have to teach myself business entities before the final as well as the bar because he mostly took class time to tell us stories about his dog Sophie and his son Richard. Professor Pizzano should find a more structured way to teach such intricate subject. He should add dates to his syllabus and should move to using slides to teach this course. Sometimes, it can be unclear which topic we are discussing. He typically introduces concepts via stories and allows students to figure out how the issues relate to the concepts we read about. I find when I am able to make the connection, this is an effective method of teaching. But sometimes, it can be unclear and confusing. I feel that students would benefit with a brief introduction to the topic before we start discussing it. I struggled sometimes to follow the line of thinking, and thought maybe visuals could have helped to frame what the professor was talking about to refer back to. The text book is dense and opaque. It does not line up well with what Prof. Pizzano covers in class. More stream lined lectures. Professor Pizzano is a good professor but often tails off on tangents and other stories. While this is a good quality to have as an educator, to be personable, I often found myself confused as to what points he was trying to make and what was important material versus another tangent None It would be helpful to have dates on the syllabus, or to at least let us know the class before which cases must be read. It is hard to follow along/prepare for class appropriately. Sometimes I read too far in advance and then wouldn ' t remember the reading when the time came, sometimes we fit 4 cases in one class. I also didn ' t feel the textbook readings were particularly helpful, other than the cases. I often had a different takeaway from the readings than what was emphasized in class. I felt like I followed along better when I came in unprepared than when I did the readings sometimes. I enjoyed class discussion, but information is delivered in a casual manner which sometimes leads to folks getting distracted. Nothing that I can think of!
