Spring 2022 Course Evaluations

In what way(s) did this course benefit your professional or intellectual development?

It honed my writing ability beyond what I learned in LPS. This writing assignment was similar, but was definitely more advanced in that it included issues within issues to parse out and deal with, which will be a benefit in actual practice. I enjoy legal writing and analysis, so the advanced legal writing course greatly benefited my professional development. I now have a writing sample for employers. I also feel much more confident in my writing abilities. The course made me feel far more confident in my writing abilities. Legal research and writing is a necessary skill and one that, as law students and future lawyers, we must feel comfortable with and proficient in. This class, and Professor Kaplan’s teachings, definitely helped me to feel such a way. What I’ve learned has also been applicable and utilized in other classes as well as the internship I currently have (which I think makes this class even better). This class provided me with confidence in my writing, legal thinking, and in my ability to actually be a practicing lawyer. I was extremely nervous coming into the class, which I took not only to fulfill my Legal Writing Requirement but also because I felt a class like this was necessary for any law student to take and expand upon skills learned in LPS. Prof. Kaplan was engaging, supportive, and I feel like I really learned how to write and think like a lawyer - even more so than in my LPS class. I became a better writer and litigator Professor Kaplan showed me how to be a better writer.
