Spring 2022 Course Evaluations
Below are the responses to the three open-ended questions asked regarding the instructor and the course. Please note, student responses have not been edited in any way. Blank pages indicate no response for that question. What aspect(s) of the course or instruction enhanced your learning? I think the writing exercises that Professor Kaplan used in class were helpful and enhanced the learning. Professor Kaplan always had fun examples and exercises that illustrated the concept he was trying to teach. Our in-class discussions enhanced my learning and understanding for the course. If I had any questions about the writing assignment, class material, or other writing topics, it was usually brought up in class at some point. I felt confident writing the argument section of my appellate memo because of how often and detailed our discussions were. I also enjoyed the in class writing assignments. These gave us a chance to work on small parts of our paper ahead of time, to give us the opportunity to get feedback as we went along. The examples and exercises done in class translated perfectly to assist us in our writing. I really enjoyed being a student of Professor Kaplan’s this semester. He was incredibly helpful (both inside of the classroom and out) and overall, is truly a great professor. It is obvious that he cares about us as students, future lawyers and people in general. I appreciated the in class exercises we worked on that were applicable to our main appellate brief assignment and found each of the legal research and writing skills we were taught to be extremely important/ relevant. I feel much more prepared for my future legal career after taking this class than I did walking (or signing) into it and for that I am so grateful. I highly suggest that all students take this class because (1) Professor Kaplan is a great resource and source of support; (2) it is a great way to brush up on what I learned during 1L LPS and (3) it surely brought my abilities to new heights. Prof. Kaplan was an incredible professor for Advanced Legal Writing. He was clear, succinct, helped us work through the problem we were addressing and writing, and really made the class enjoyable. Prof. Kaplan was approachable and I felt that he was really looking for us to succeed. I had started ALW with another professor in the Fall but ended up switching to a different class because of a scheduling conflict. I am so happy it worked out this way because Prof. Kaplan taught me so much and I really enjoyed a class I was hesitant to take. Examples. videos, discussions and Q and A
