Spring 2022 Course Evaluations
What aspect(s) of the course or instruction could be improved?
The professor’s style of teaching is demeaning Constitutional law is a very confusing class especially for 1L’s therefore it needs to be taught in a clear and organized manner. Professor Landers expected people to already have background knowledge in constitutional law so she would not explain certain things which would just make the class even more confusing. She spent more time discussing information that was outside the scope of our readings for that day. Even when we did discuss the readings she would give us background on the justices and where they lived and their life experiences, however, it is totally irrelevant to the case we’re reading. cold calling just shouldn’t happen in this class Professor Landers is an extremely intelligent individual and it is very clear there is much she could teach. Yet, in class, her lessons don’t provide any insight into the overall topic/what we should be taking away from the dense amount of cases/reading we do for class. Constitutional law is complex itself and therefore it needs a professor who can not only engage the class in interesting conversations but also broaden the lens and teach students what they should be taking away/how they can apply it to other ideas/scenarios. I think Prof. Landers needs to improve on how she approaches topics and improve her clarity. For the majority of the course, even after doing all the readings (50+ pages a class), students still had no idea what the "point" of them were and what the broad takeaways should be. Impossible to gauge what material the professor is looking for you to prepare for class. The questions she asks for cold calls are always questions you could not have been prepared for. The class could be improved by less reading (there were far too many, and always having to focus on tiny note cases that are barely touched on in the actual reading creates more reading because if you have to outsource) I find that professor Landers has a wealth of knowledge. She almost need you to know as much as she does to engage in conversation. It is definitely hard to follow if you have not go beyond the reading to understand and put the information you are reading in context. I think the instruction of the course could be heavily improved. I think the professor wanted the course to be student led by sending us discussion questions and such before classes, however, the material was so dense that class discussions often fell flat and the class just sat in silence not knowing how to answer questions. I think there needs to be a better balance between discussion and lecture. There was not enough lecture. It was far too intimidating. It was hard to focus in on reading the book and attempting ot understand when you were os nervous about what was expected of you. It hindered the learning experience.. Less readings and more thorough analysis of the material. Professor Landers was not engaging during
