Spring 2022 Course Evaluations

Additional comments

Prof. Reyes has a positive energy and is willing to help students Professor Reyes has great enthusiasm in teaching the class which makes it more attractive considering the difficult content of the course. I have loved having Professor Reyes this semester, I am planning on taking Criminal Procedure with him next semester because he explains complex topics clearly, and is engaging and respectful towards all of his students. One of the best professors I have had so far! one of the toughest classes in law school so far, but very knowledgeable professor Prof. Reyes was extremely respectful and engaging which helped promote a better learning environment. Only complaint is regarding the work load. TA was phenomenal and worked well in tandem with the Professor. Both are professional, knowledgable, and helpful in many respects. I was disappointed with how Professor Reyes taught this class. The material was presented according to the syllabus, but the messages of the readings and Professor Reyes lectures do not match. Every class was more of a comedy show for Professor Reyes than actually teaching the material. Professor Reyes spent more time in class talking about how the Founders were daft and racist. Professor Reyes says frequently in class that he will share his political opinions and philosophies where he see fit, but I didn’t expect that to be every class. Regardless of the material topic, the discussion always came back to how bad the Constitution is and how the way it is written is a threat to underrepresented or minority groups. We have to learn about underrepresented and minority groups and how the laws can adversely harm them, but I don’t think that is suppose to be the message in a 1L class. He is not an effective teacher. His lectures are a threat to originalism, so much so that he ends the readings before any dissents written by more conservative justices. We never get the whole picture of the landmark cases, but only what Professor Reyes wants to speak about. He is an animated professor who likes to make jokes, but doesn’t care how we do one the exam. I don’t want to entirely bash Professor Reyes because his class was nice to go to, but only when discussing topics that don’t involve race or women because his "jokes" about the topic are offensive and are gross generalizations about people who think differently than he does. I wish the section was given a more neutral professor who spoke more about Constitutional Law. Out of Prof. Reyes many admirable qualities, I most appreciated his ability to successfully foster a respectful learning environment where he treated us all as peers, and never expressed a hint of frustration when students could not adequately answer a question. I would welcome the opportunity to take another class with him. Great profesor. Very kind and respectful I’d like to thank Prof Reyes for his engaging classes. I really appreciate how enthusiastic he is
