Spring 2022 Course Evaluations
Below are the responses to the three open-ended questions asked regarding the instructor and the course. Please note, student responses have not been edited in any way. Blank pages indicate no response for that question. What aspect(s) of the course or instruction enhanced your learning?
Pok’s style / made it relevant
Honestly, there is not much that helped with the instruction of my ConLaw class. Most of the class period was used to discuss current events and we are about a month behind in the syllabus. In class discussions I loved how much we talked about current events because there is so much happening right now in relation to Constitutional law. This class is hard to evaluate because of extenuating circumstances. I really appreciated the unique insight Prof. Pokorak brought to the class, but I found the unstructured way of teaching didn’t really mesh well with my learning style. I also felt it a little disrespectful of my time to have assigned readings that were never discussed in class. Having said that, I really appreciated Prof. Pokorak because he actually cares about the students. You can tell he wants everyone to succeed and he tries his best. He’s had a tough semester, so I don’t think my comments are that reflective of his teaching in a normal semester. None. It would’ve been better to simply read a supplement, which is in fact, what I have to do now since I learned nothing in this class. I thought this was one of the most interesting and engaging classes I had and we learned a lot about current events and historical politics that were relevant to constitutional law I thought Professor Pokorak’s historical emphasis on the course was interesting and helped piece together the context of various aspects of the course. The panel session was helpful to learn that topic Class discussions were often focused on political issues and strayed far from the learning materials which were listed on the syllabus for that date, leading to the class falling weeks behind in materials before Prof. Reyes stepped in. Professor Pokorak’s personal anecdotes made the material a lot more interesting, especially at the beginning of the semester when trying to get through CJ Marshall’s droning opinions. This class did not enhance my learning Current even discussions and panels Professor Pokorak is an engaging professor, I enjoyed how he would teach Con Law through current events. He always made me personally feel seen and heard within our class. The panel discussion was incredible helpful. Professor Pokorak is such a great guy, I really hope that things start to turn up for him. He really nailed the proper format for a class as subjective and contested as Constitutional Law 6
