Spring 2022 Course Evaluations
In what way(s) did this course benefit your professional or intellectual development?
It was the definition of experiential learning. We had the opportunity if we put effort in to really get the ball rolling on starting a solo practice Professor Garcia really focused on real world application of the material. Even though I do not think I am likley to open my own firm, all the knowledge I gained from this class will be incredibly helpful in everyday practice. in the future i will have experience on small firms and know the process on how to start one I’ve really had to think about what kind of law firm I’d like to run, but also what kind of law firm I want to work at one day. It illustrated how practice really is when you’re solo I came into this class with no expectation of starting my own law firm. This class has not changed my intention or perception that starting a law firm is a terrifying idea, and if anything I am more afraid of it than I was at the start. But I would take that as praise for the honesty of the class, not criticism. Plus, my field of law is basically inaccessible to small firms by its nature. This class was important to my development both for interacting with small firms and also understanding the inner workings of the large firm environment I plan to stay in throughout my career. Plus, I appreciate the opportunity to find out first hand what types of obstacles stand between me and my own practice, reassuring me that I have made the right career choice. Gave practical information and insight about actually being a lawyer that has never been discussed in law school.
