In what way(s) did this course benefit your professional or intellectual development?

I’ve been interested in the ins and outs of state and local government for awhile, and this class was a great, in-depth look at how municipalities and states work, and where the legal justifications come from. I now view my own municipality in a different light, and feel more confident in discussing local issues with my family and friends as I have more background information on how things occur on a local level. These issues are relevant to being an informed citizen honestly, I’m surprised its not a bar topic. Gained a much deeper understanding of state and local govt. This will help me in my government work and as an informed citizen. Providing clear cut examples that helped me think about the topics we were learning about in a completely different way. I had no understanding of how towns worked before this class State and Local government is not taught enough in general for how important it is. I feel that this class should have more people taking it because of how important it is. It really gave me a well rounded knowledge Professionally, the knowledge about state government functions along with local functions will be very useful, as many times there are issues which need to be examined on the local level before looking at state or federal laws. Now I understand more about the importance of the cooperation between the state and local levels and I think that this is very important at any field inside the law. Helped me make connections to concepts in other classes. Really showed me some of the interesting dynamic and directions happening at a local level and how to be a better citizen in that regard.
