Spring 2022 Course Evaluations

Below are the responses to the three open-ended questions asked regarding the instructor and the course. Please note, student responses have not been edited in any way. Blank pages indicate no response for that question. What aspect(s) of the course or instruction enhanced your learning? Professor Griffith is a wonderful teacher, and her prior experience in state and local government really shone in this class. She was able to take what we read about in our book and apply it to real life experiences she either went through or knows about to make it more personal and understandable. She’s a very straight-forward professor who has such a skill for creating discussion in a class that, at times from just reading the book, I wouldn’t think there’d be much room left for discussion. She always wanted to hear our thoughts and opinions on differing ways the courts around the country look at state and local government issues which gave us a solid foundation to digest and express what we took from the class material, which now gives me confidence in being able to answer her exam question(s). I enjoyed the guest speaker, it was helpful to connect what we were learning. I liked out discussions related to real world situations, that context helped. Professor Griffith tied all the relevant topics to real world scenarios and it helped to understanding the overarching topics more. Professor G’s background in State & Local Gov really enhanced the class I enjoyed Professor Griffith’s presentation of the material. It is easy to see that she has years of experience teaching this material. I also enjoyed her honesty when we got to more mundane material that she did not know as much about.State and Local government can be a complex subject so learning was done all around. Stuck closely with the book The subject matter was useful, and not touched upon much in other courses. I learned the structure of the government inside the United States, which was one of the main reasons of why I decided to take this class. Professor’s strong knowledge of the subject area and willingness to bring in outside speakers was very enlightening.
