Spring 2022 Course Evaluations
Below are the responses to the three open-ended questions asked regarding the instructor and the course. Please note, student responses have not been edited in any way. Blank pages indicate no response for that question. What aspect(s) of the course or instruction enhanced your learning? The opportunity to re-evaluate some familiar cases with a different perspective on the language that was used and the comparisons to other countries handling of similar issues. It helped me look more critically at case law and see patterns in the court’s rulings. Gave good articles which expanded on the topics addressed in class. I really enjoy the discussion based nature of the class. I also really enjoyed the timely news articles and wants of bringing in different authors and sources into the learning. In class discussions I enjoyed the ratio of textbook vs. online readings and thought Prof. Reyes did a really great job encouraging participation and discussion. Cold calling can be awkward and stressful but I felt if I didn’t know something he was very accepting of that. I never felt uncomfortable with it as I have in the past. Everything! I loved the selected outside readings, as well as the cases that were from the Textbook. I really enjoyed the critical way that Professor Reyes looks at SCOTUS decisions that touch upon race, gender, and other suspect classes.
