OLDFall 2022 Law School Course Evaluations
In what way(s) did this course benefit your professional or intellectual development? I have come out of this class with a very strong understanding not only of the material but its social implications and context. I think that will make me a very strong advocate both from a law and public policy perspective. it was a class I took just because it is interesting to me I think I gained a good baseline knowledge of employment discrimination that I would be able to put into practice. I learned that I may be interested in pursuing a career in employment discrimination claims some day! I thought the class was really interesting and learned a lot It taught me the core issues of employment discrimination law. I have a far better understanding of the balancing judges make when determining claims. I think it was beneficial because it helped me approach problems in a practical way. We tended to discuss how the laws may affect clients and employment relationships generally. These skills are valuable as I move into my legal career. its important to know these things I enjoyed how Professor Yamada taught this course two fold: (1) he taught us the law of federal employment discrimination law and (2) he taught us how a plaintiff or defendant attorney would attack a scenario. After almost exclusively focusing on the former my 1L year, I appreciated what I labeled as "practical advice" in my notes. Perhaps because I have a particular interest in employment and labor law, I like knowing how I should approach a person coming in for a consultation who thinks they might have been victim to discrimination in the workplace and what kinds of things I should look for and ask about.
