OLDFall 2022 Law School Course Evaluations

will not be able to ask her any civil procedure questions during office hours this week, we can only come to discuss other aspects of life or talk about her interest in patent law. This is completely unreasonable. Finally, Professor Burstein ' s cold-calling technique is humiliating. She goes especially hard on people when she can tell they haven ' t done the reading and she asks questions in a way that don ' t make sense to anyone. The other day, someone who clearly did the reading was struggling to answer an abstract question, and Professor Burstein said "this is as simple as asking if the sky is blue," making the student feel like an idiot for not knowing the answer. This is just one example of the disrespect she has toward her students. 1. The book is poorly written. It is very inconsistent, sometimes having the cases be 12+ pages, while other important cases are relegated to two sentences in the notes section. In addition, the structure of the readings was really inconsistent, where some days we would have minimal readings. 2. Additionally, the book is strangely structured. For example, the personal jurisdiction section went through the entire history of it while other sections are little more than 10 pages. 3. The class wasted a few sessions that weren ' t helpful. We had three zooms with other "twitter" attorneys which were cool to hear from, but having three of them really made the class disjointed and broke the flow of it. 4. She really needs to get better at answering questions. The class will ask some questions which she rightfully pushes aside, like worrying about torts in hypos when we ' re just worrying about the procedure, but other questions she ' ll avoid or even attack. More Organization. Slower pace. More open discussion. Better responses to questions. Access to professor outside of class. Access to Hypotheticals and study prep. More clarity on exams. Review over the midterm and not just dismissal when people are confused. Cold calls were too pressure inducing compared to other classes. I think that our Professor is very smart and could definitely to better with providing more resources to her students. She does not make it easy to meet outside of class, she always tells us to go to the TA. In addition, she does not provide any hypotheticals for us to practice other than our practice midterm. Our TA provides us with hypotheticals that he makes himself which is very helpful but I am also worried that because she is new and has not provided hypotheticals herself, then the ones he provide may not be consistent with what she is looking for. Sometimes, the class discussions really stemmed away from the overall topic we were discussing in the class. It would be much more helpful if your professor was more willing to meet for office hours. It would also be helpful to receive practice questions that will help us with the final. This was the only class we received only one hypothetical question to practice, which was the midterm. It would also help if she gave more feedback about the midterm requirements. Lastly, the final having a word limit is very stressful so it would be helpful if we had more practice hypotheticals similar to the final to practice writing in the required word limit.
