OLDFall 2022 Law School Course Evaluations
Our TA for this course was absolutely incredible and he enhanced our learning by walking through the material at the level that was necessary for 1L learning. He was so patient with us and really cared about us learning the material. It ' s definitely important for me to note that Professor Burstein is clearly very intelligent and educated, especially when it came to Civil Procedure. She also consistently taught in an excited manner which certainly helped. The TA review sessions really helped me learn Civil Procedure. I would be very lost without it. NONE! she is the worst professor I have ever had in my entire educational career. completely ineffective I think the format of the class was super helpful. The building of how to file suits and know where suits can take place was both interesting and something that we will need to know for our future careers. the course helped me learn a lot about how cases are brought to court. i have never worked in the legal field before so I had no knowledge of that process before the course. I really liked that Nathan sat in on our class and held very in-depth review sessions. He basically re-taught us to the best of his ability being that we had different textbooks than what he learned from. I think Professor Burstien tried to be enthusiastic about the subject and you can tell she cares about the subject a lot, but towards the end she lost that a bit and it became hard to be engaged in the class. Also, she related a lot back to patents, which she was very enthusiastic about, but after a while it became a hinderance because we are not in a patent class and while there is relevance, she could have used different examples that look more similar to what we are expected to know in the class. I had to look to outside sources much of the time to help learn the required material. Prof. Burstein provided several real-world examples of the concepts we were discussing in class, and even got us a live conference with a lawyer who argued one of our SCOTUS cases. The book was excellent and comprehensive. The textbook was engaging and Prof. Burstein demonstrated a genuine interest in the material which was engaging. Our TA Nathan Andrews Professor Burstein asked some of the more thought-provoking questions of any 1L instructor I had, pushing students to go beyond the text and think for themselves about either the policy or motivations behind the law. I also think Professor Burstein was a particularly effective Zoom instructor. Professor Burstein struck a good balance of efficiency and thoroughness in covering dense and detail-oriented material. We were offered access to excellent review outside of class. This is a particularly difficult question to answer, because other than the Mock Midterm, the professor didn ' t offer additional practice questions or materials that illustrate what the big
