OLDFall 2022 Law School Course Evaluations
What aspect(s) of the course or instruction could be improved? To be frank, I do not believe this class is necessary or even useful. My understanding of the Model Rules was not furthered in the slightest by this class, and I anticipate that when studying for the final in this class, or preparing for the MPRE in the Spring, I will not rely on my notes from this class at all. My understanding of the Model Rules has come only from my reading of the rules and comments outside of class; I feel like we’ve barely touched on them at all this semester. He speaks VERY slow and gets into tangents and that combination makes it very hard to pay attention. He seems very sweet but this was somehow the driest class I have ever taken. I know he said that the weekly journal entries were not meant to be busy work but that is absolutely what it becomes. Maybe make the class more interactive or dynamic in some way. He literally does not teach the rules. He reads the rules to us (as if we cannot do that ourselves) and does not explain any of nuances every rule has Less lecture. Professional responsibility has the potential to be a fun class. However, lecturing through 90% of the course made me uninterested. There is also a lot of room to provide more information on the MPRE. I would recommend incorporating Barbri videos or practice tests. Lastly, the midterm should be multiple choice and not an open book essay where we essentially just label the rules. Too many articles, but I appreciate he covers everything and applies it to the MRP. The journals are also tedious because of volume, but I appreciate that he cares enough to read about what we are thinking on a weekly basis. It has been difficult to figure out the material to read before each class. Professor Ward has modified the original syllabus several times throughout the semester, but not updated the syllabus Blackboard. Students have to sift through emails to figure out how to prepare for class. Additionally, Professor Ward would periodically send reading material via email. Often times, I did not read an article or assignment prior to class because I did not know we had to, or because I forgot he had sent it to us in am email from several days prior. Students need a central location for reading assignments. None Professor Ward made great effort to make a dry course into something that is interesting and relevant, which was greatly appreciated.
