OLDFall 2022 Law School Course Evaluations

What aspect(s) of the course or instruction could be improved? I think that 3 hours of straight class time is a little long. The class could be improved by being twice a week for an hour and a half each time. This did not really prepare me for the MPRE, it shouldn ' t be required. I know that ' s not the schools fault but why cant we change the curriculum to gear towards MPRE prep. The practice questions were very helpful but I wish there were more MPRE questions to better prepare myself for the MPRE exam and for the midterm/final. Maybe doing 15 question quizzes to help continue building a foundation we are learning in class and get more practice. Some of the readings were a little too long and felt a little unnecessary since I knew they would not be on the final. Although some of the social implications are important to discuss, I think some of the readings were unnecessary to have a discussion about the certain topic. Divide this course in two. One mandatory class (potentially in 1L for 1-2 credits) that focusses on the MPRE and black letter "legal ethics." Then have an upper level seminar style class for 2 credits that encompasses the important and interesting materials like those that Prof. Schendel currently assigns weekly. I don ' t see the need to have a guest speaker every week. I understand it is beneficial to some but not all and I felt that portion of the class should have been optional. Some (most) of the readings did not pair well with what we were learning in class and I did not see them as helpful for learning the material especially when we are only being tested on the rules. Overall, I think the class time could be shorted and 3 hours is a very long class for little testable material. None! I really enjoyed having guest speakers come most weeks to provide insight into their journey through the law and answer student questions. It provided an unusual opportunity for students to learn what paths practicing attorneys took to get to where they are. However, sometimes the guest speakers seemed disconnected from the content of the course. It might be beneficial to make more direct connections between the content assigned for that class and the guest speaker for that day. Nothing, really! I enjoyed all of our classes, the material, and our guest speakers. I personally think the course could be done in 2 hours instead of 3, but that ' s just my personal opinion on it, I ' ve never been a fan of 3-hour classes. I don’t think anything needs to be improved really. This was a wonderful class and Professor Schendel was great!
