OLDFall 2022 Law School Course Evaluations

Below are the responses to the three open-ended questions asked regarding the instructor and the course. Please note, student responses have not been edited in any way. Blank pages indicate no response for that question. What aspect(s) of the course or instruction enhanced your learning? I enjoyed having guest speakers who had a wide variety of experiences that were interesting to learn about. I found several of the readings informative and important. I really enjoyed the guest speakers and the practice questions we did in class. The discussions were great as well. I appreciated the practice multiple choice questions we did to help prep for the exam as well as the MPRE. Professor Schendel is an engaging lecturer and combined a useful variety of learning opportunities that helped further my understanding of professional responsibility as it relates to the law and the world at large. (podcasts, in-class videos, up-to-date and current events readings). Being a lawyer is more than just knowing the law. the practice questions and quizzes I really liked how the professor brought in guest speakers to speak to the relevance of the rules in real life. I also like how she organized slides around the readings for each class Professor Schendel not only teaches the Model Rules of Professional Conduct, but highlights the issues and struggles facing the legal field in a way that prepares students for what they will experience once they leave law school. We not only talked about the rules for the MPRE, but also had discussions about ethical conflicts lawyers face when dealing with client confidentiality, substance abuse and addiction, and how traditional expectations of professionalism can add to racially charged micro-aggressions. Professor Schendel ' s powerpoints, outside-of-class readings, and her practice quizzes/problems all enhanced my learning. The readings and class discussion that connected to the rules of professional responsibility truly helped to put the rules into perspective/practice. Additionally, I enjoyed the use of multiple choice questions in and outside of class that replicated the MPRE. I feel that this class will help prepare me to take the MPRE with a little additional studying.
