Spring 2022 Course Evaluations

Below are the responses to the three open-ended questions asked regarding the instructor and the course. Please note, student responses have not been edited in any way. Blank pages indicate no response for that question. What aspect(s) of the course or instruction enhanced your learning? Prof. Georges always encouraged us to put in the work and do our best. Presenting in front of the class as often as we did was nerve-wracking but definitely helped keep me on track with the work and always being prepared. Georges was always so passionate about the material and helping people improve, providing very helpful feedback, I learned so much this semester. Honestly, all of it. The reading provided a great foundation, watching other students helped me learn a LOT, and of course presenting and receiving tailored feedback was outstandingly helpful. I appreciate how Judge Georges and Prof. Brennan play off of what each other is saying. And I greatly appreciate how neither of them bullshit with feedback. There’s always something to improve, and they don’t shy away from it--but that’s how we learn. And it means This is an amazing course, and especially this semester when Justice Georges and Hank Brennan combined their sessions into one session, I think we really got the best of both worlds. I’ll remember this class forever. I think one of the best parts of the class was when the Justice or Prof. Brennan would step into the role we are playing and show us how to do it. It is one thing to explain how to do a great cross, but it’s completely another thing to sit there and watch Prof. Brennan do it like a pro. The Justice’s opening statement was so superior to anything offered by the class, that it really gave us a mark to aspire to. Obviously both of these men are extremely gifted and experienced, so this entire course was probably the greatest privilege of my academic life to be a part of. I really appreciated that we learned one case and stuck with the case for the whole semester. I think it really allowed me to focus on the skills we were learning, as opposed to having to learn new facts every week. This class was hands on. There is no place to hide in oral argument! This is an important part of professional development for attorneys who will likely end up in a courtroom. that when positive feedback is given, it holds a lot of weight. One Thursday my positive feedback was that I demonstrated great listening skills doing a direct, and I rode that high all through the weekend.
