Spring 2022 Course Evaluations

about how people are colluding and supposed to be answering this independently. I think he may have overheard somebody ask another person about how they rated one element on the evaluation? Although he may be right, it did not need to be met with attitude. That is just not good teaching. Finally, comparing him to our Contracts TA who goes above and beyond what I believe his job description requires, shows that there is such a range in what the TAs offer here at Suffolk. Leon held 2 review sessions, while Bob from contracts held review sessions weekly. Leon says that he did so less frequently because torts is organized in a way where review sessions are only beneficial at the end of each unit--intentional torts, negligence, and strict liability (strict liability never got a review session because we did not finish the topic until the last day of class). Although I’m no lawyer yet, I do not agree with that sentiment whatsoever. THROUGHOUT each unit, we could have really benefitted from his clarification on topics, especially with how tangential Professor Robertson was. My smartest classmates were so confused throughout the semester, and a lot of us still are to this day. To me, the resistance to holding more than 2 review sessions came off more lazily than out of need for students to complete each full unit. Although Bob goes above and beyond, and I was not expecting that of this TA, I hope this helps demonstrate the contrast. TA is very unprofessional. Is rude and responds to questions in sarcastic and un-educational manner. Did not create a welcoming environment to ask questions and was not approachable at all. Please find a new professor to teach torts to 1Ls. I’m sure Professor Robertson is great for upper level courses, but this level of instruction for Torts is simply not up to par and Suffolk should expect better. Professor Robertson is a HILARIOUS professor, he use humor to make class engaging and interesting. Our TA, Leon Rotenstein, was the most disrespectful person I have ever experienced in an educational setting. He held two review sessions the entire semester and any time we would ask him a question about an upcoming assignment or review, he would respond as if we are dirt under his shoe. Just one example of the disrespect was recently a question was asked about whether a session would be recorded, he responded, "why would I answer that, why don’t you guys talk among yourselves, crowd-source the answer, and figure it out." On multiple occasions I and fellow classmates heard him talking about us in the cafe, saying he has no idea why we are asking him such dumb questions because this stuff is so easy. On another occasion we heard him saying he was just doing the TA position to get a letter of recommendation. His behavior went beyond disrespectful to genuinely mean and cruel. This combination of Professor Robertson, Leon, and my horrible experience in Constitutional Law this semester has genuinely made me regret coming to Suffolk and I am very seriously considering transferring. I have never experienced so much horrible instructing all at one time in my life, and during an already very difficult year no less.
