Spring 2022 Course Evaluations

Additional comments

Compared to the other half of the section I do not feel like my knowledge of torts is at the level it needs to be. I think if there were PowerPoints that helped the Professor stay on task and maintain a steady and forward-moving pace during class and throughout the semester it would have been better. I also would have preferred weekly TA review meetings instead of one big review of intentional torts. Professor Robertson clearly is very knowledgeable on the material, but unfortunately his effectiveness as a professor seems hindered by his difficulty hearing. It has become extremely challenging to ask or answer questions in class, and often leads to confusion and wasted time. Professor Robertson is an excellent, kind, and brilliant man. I have no issue with him as a person. Regarding the class, it was a complete disaster: - Class was based on rambling lectures that were very difficult to understand or comprehend - Class material was often inconsistent with reading material - Professor Robertson rarely provided any meaningful response to student questions. His answers usually did not even relate to the question. Sometimes, he would respond with further questions which would confuse the class even further. - Often times, he could not hear questions. By a few weeks into the semester, most students stopped even trying to ask questions because Prof. Robertson either couldn’t hear them or did not provide a response that was even remotely helpful. I was certainly in this boat. - The material in class often contradicts the material in the supplement he recommended we purchase - He is not on the same page as the TA on multiple course topics Up to this point, in order to learn the subject, I have used 0 resources from the class itself. I have used power points from other torts classes, Barbri videos, and outside reading sources. As of the past few weeks, I have spent my time in class outlining and reading from outside sources because that is far more useful for the development of my torts knowledge. I have taught myself torts up to this point and will continue doing so. It is patently unfair that 1L students were forced to take such a foundational class in these conditions. TA Instruction: Leon Rotenstein should not have been selected as a TA. He was incredibly rude to all of the students. We were unsure about grading for writing assignments (as it was not listed in the syllabus nor explained clearly) and he yelled at us in class about "bugging him" about what grades on the assignment meant even though all we received was an empty email with a check mark in it. It took him several months to host our first review session, and as I am writing this (in the second to last week of classes) we still have yet to have our second review session! In my mind this is ridiculous and unacceptable especially given how attentive the other section’s TA is. In addition, he was very reluctant to start and even hold office hours, and one one occasion told the whole class (after we informed him we had a conflict) that he would "hold the office hours" but not actually be there and would just "bill the school anyway"
