Spring 2022 Course Evaluations
I think sometimes the in class hypotheticals got a little drawn out when, perhaps, people were not catching on to the goal of the hypo, and this lead to me being occasionally lost or confused about where we were and what the main take away was. Robertson is not with it enough to still be teaching at this school. I’m sure he was once a great professor, but the amount of time wasted in this class with him unable to communicate effectively or even hear what students were saying despite students yelling their answers because he has such severe hearing loss. I truly feel that what Robertson is able to provide is no longer sufficient for the quality of learning that Suffolk promises. Robertson was great- he was one of the clearest professors ive ever had and never attempted to "hide the ball!" Professor Robertson tends to go on rambles, often which have nothing to do with the material. These rambles can last up to 15 minutes are so, and really detract time away from the class. Also, Professor Robertson spent the first two months or so of the course preceding slowly through the material, and then wanted to rush through the second half of the material on the syllabus in order to finish by the end of the year. I would like to recommend that Professor Robertson have more a balance throughout the course, and hit the ground running quickly, in order to prepare students for what’s to come later on down the road. Professor Robertson is incredibly nice and clearly cares about his students, but the classes were often disorganized and confusing. When the class was organized, it was a great learning environment. However, when it was disorganized, it was usually frustrating and I would leave pretty upset. Additionally, TA’s should be screened more heavily for interest level and basic decency. Our TA was incredibly unhelpful, held two review sessions all year and all he did was read from slides that he clearly did not make, and was regularly rude/seemed frustrated at simple questions from students. The only downfall of this class was the lack of regular TA sessions/an effective and good TA. Sometimes, even though the concepts are straight-forward, it would’ve been nice to have weekly review sessions, not just open TA office hours, in order to review the material. I also think weekly quizzes would’ve improved our development in the concepts. I’m always a big proponent of weekly quizzes, graded or ungraded, to effectively gauge our understanding of the concepts. I found it challenging to get the main takeaways from class discussions. While it is important to present questions for students to discuss, I found that many of them were not answered in a clear manner that could allow me to understand what I was supposed to take away from the discussion. I think a more focused syllabus of reading assignments would be helpful, rather than just reading 6-7 cases ahead. The amount of case reading is far too much for this course. Up until the last two weeks of class, we were assigned every single case in every chapter of our casebook. I understand that learning different fact patterns is helpful, but it became overwhelming. I believe lecturing certain
