Spring 2022 Course Evaluations
law school have been able to do so). I cannot emphasize enough that I have a tough skin and it takes a good amount for me to find something pushing the line, but we seem to be there a lot. In 2022 when so many rights are under attack and there is such vitriol and violence directed at minorities, we need to ensure that these "tough discussions" are respectful and not treated like a joke. This has really been distracting and hindered the classroom and learning environment. What makes it worst is outside of class it was insinuated by Eisenstat that another professor made students uncomfortable by telling students about his politics (which had a purpose in that class, not just a sidetrack), but there isn’t the realization the same thing is happening in this class. - Generally, things were okay, but overall it was incredibly distracting and led to students not raising their hands, which was then complained about and all of it combined just ended up decreasing student interaction and took time away from the subject. The syllabus we got was just a list of the readings we would cover. Would have been nice to have some more information on it regarding grading, required texts, etc. I would have preferred if the syllabus had its readings assigned by date. Although Professor Eisenstat always tells us the reading for the next class at the end of each class, it would be easier for me to plan ahead or read ahead during less-busy weeks if I knew what readings were upcoming. However, I do understand that it can be hard to gauge how long it will take to cover material in case, especially for longer topics. However, it seemed that we were a bit rushed through the material towards the end of the semester, which may have been minimized if we followed a strict syllabus. Professor needs a TA. responding to questions... not a good learning environment to feel comfortable to ask questions I see his structure and his vision. Some say that they can’t follow his teaching style, but I disagree with them. While it is slightly chaotic in the execution, the structure is always there and people just need to see it. Maybe repeating the structure at the end of a topic. A summary of how we should understand it. Time management. I don’t think it’s fair that we covered 1/3 of the syllabus in one and a half weeks. I also don’t think it’s fair that we had to have several make up classes because of the poor time management. There were several occasions throughout the semester where Professor Eisenstat made disparaging and insensitive comments to different students during class. This discouraged participation greatly and made it difficult to focus on the topic at hand instead of the resulting discomfort and shock. I believe these comments were made as a way to try and incentivize participation, but had the opposite effect and made students even less inclined to participate. Jumped around the syllabus a lot, gave readings for next class at the end of current class, could be confusing about what was supposed to be read
