OLDFall 2022 Law School Course Evaluations

Below are the responses to the three open-ended questions asked regarding the instructor and the course. Please note, student responses have not been edited in any way. Blank pages indicate no response for that question. What aspect(s) of the course or instruction enhanced your learning? Professor Glannon was incredibly engaging in class and offered many hypotheticals to assist us with our understanding of the course content. Additionally, his E+E book, and the examples within it, furthered my understanding as I was able to apply what I was learning to different fact patterns. Prof. Glannon ' s approach to teaching is excellent. He begins every class on time and recaps what we have been learning, not just from the prior class, but the entire semester. He welcomes questions and gives great hypotheticals. He encourages participation without too much pressure. It is a privilege to speak in his class, not a burden. He is consistent and I know what to expect from class and what is expected from me. I cannot speak highly enough about Prof. Glannon or this course. Engaging discussions and thorough and thoughtful answers to my hypos and questions. Part of the instruction that enhanced my learning was the use of class engagement. The access to the hypos in the E&E text and the coursebook were invaluable to learning how to apply the many rules. In class, Glannon spent only about half the time going over cases and the other half doing on-the-spot hypos and answering questions. While this was initially intimidating, I now recognize how effectively Glannon ' s style prepares us to apply complex rules to real world facts and situations. No other professor comes close to this. By engaging with hypos and changing one material fact at a time, I learned to define the boundaries of a rule so I can apply them confidently in "edge" cases. I appreciated the time Professor Glannon took to address hypos during class. I also appreciated "real world" examples from the list serve or cases that Professor Glannon had worked on; they bolstered my understanding of the material. The hypotheticals and class discussions enhanced my learning. Professor Glannon is excellent at providing examples for every concept and putting them in a real world context. He could come up with a hypothetical in class for any kind of question asked and this was really useful in understanding, not just memorizing material. The Examples and Explanations book was also extremely helpful. The discussion based classes that were extremely hypothetical based and constantly interactive were extremely helpful in my understanding of the material The hypothetical scenarios were generally helpful in illustrating how the rules can be implemented and the class discussion was helpful in forcing us to demonstrate why we would argue a point a certain way. I liked that the classroom was very discussion and hypothetical-based. That helped me a lot.
