OLDFall 2022 Law School Course Evaluations

makes me sad to say. At the end of the personal jurisdiction unit, students were struggling and were excited to chat with Professor Burstein about it. She then told us that her next office hours would be "solely dedicated to talking about anything besides class topics." This felt incredibly rude. Furthermore, she refused to give us past examples of test essay questions that she provided in the past, nor would she even tell us what to expect for a "policy question" on the final, which has thankfully been removed. I certainly understand that I ' m not entitled to any of this, but I ' ve watched my other professors go above and beyond to offer support and practice questions. Compared to my other professors, Professor Burstein is doing the bare minimum and does not seem to care. A lot. Prof. doesn ' t like answering questions. Many class days were substituted for zoom classes with other attorneys not really relevant to civ pro. Unclear presentation of materials. change the professor immediately! if you do that then this class would be immediately improved I honestly cannot think of anything. I think Professor Burstein did an amazing job teaching us this semester and I am grateful to have had her and been in her first civ pro class at Suffolk! Our TA, Nathan Andrews, who was excellent, practice problems for us that he made which I really appreciated. I would have appreciated if Prof. Burstein had provided additional materials to help me evaluate my learning. We had a mock midterm which I appreciate, but she did not provide us any materials aside from that, did not recommend any supplements or other places to find materials, and told us not to attend Prof. Glannon ' s BLSA mock exam. I understand that different professors teach different ways and prepare exams in different ways. I would have appreciated some materials from Prof. Burstein to help prepare for the final I think the mid term is a big one, the mid term we took was ungraded and we took a class period to do it and a class to go over it. While going over it the professor was unhelpful in answering questions, told us the mid term would look nothing like our final but yet would not tell us what the final would look like and said that we all did quiet terribly but upon our request to have a sample answer that would have been sufficient, she denied us that and continued talking about expectations on this mid term that were never relayed to us before taking the exam. I think that having a mock mid term is great if it is reflective on how we are actually being tested. I felt as though the instruction was a little too technical and unclear at times, especially considering that Civil Procedure is already known to be a challenging course. As a 1L with no experience in the legal field it was difficult to grasp concepts with the intricacy of the explanations given. A more direct and simplified analysis of what we need to know and why, erring on the side layman terms, I believe would do wonders for the students ability to learn the required materials. Speaking about class structure, I think FRCP examples could be introduced earlier in the course. I feel as though the class is backloaded with information that must be memorized, and I had
