Below are the responses to the three open-ended questions asked regarding the instructor and the course. Please note, student responses have not been edited in any way. Blank pages indicate no response for that question. What aspect(s) of the course or instruction enhanced your learning? It really gave me a new inside look into the legal tech world. I still feel I am far behind my classmates in understanding this topic, but this was a great class to begin. the hands on issues at the start of the semester I loved this class! It was such a compelling and interesting experience which helped me "think outside the box" regarding future job opportunities and where I want my career to go and how I want it to evolve. As a 3L, this was the perfect chance to really think about the transition that is to come post-graduation and how I can take charge of my career rather than simply let it "happen to me." Moreover, it showed me how important being aware of technological solutions and thinking along the lines of changing technology is in our day in age. Professor Teninbaum is such a fantastic professor and resource. He made himself constantly available to us and was super friendly and encouraging. I am so glad I took this course. This was one of the most eye opening classes I have taken throughout my time here at Suffolk Law School. Typically as a student, I find myself lost in a subject and more worried about studying to receive a high grade than effectively engaging in a subject. This course, thanks to Professor Teninbaum has opened my eyes to career paths that I never knew were available and has clarified my interest in technology and the law. Presentations from industry professionals were really helpful to understanding the wide-range of non-traditional legal careers. One of my favorite classes. Guest speakers were very interesting. Professor Teninbaum brought this course to life through his enthusiasm for the subject and through guest speakers. This deepened my knowledge of the topics we discussed. The class preparation

before and the journal entries also helped engross me in the various issues we covered. Finally, the final project was a fun and enjoyable opportunity to actively use the things we learned in class. I always appreciate real-world ties to the material we learn, and this class exemplified how to do that well.

6

In what way(s) did this course benefit your professional or intellectual development? I liked learning about different people ' s career paths and different options Along with seeing the various possible careers to aspire to through thoughtfully-chosen guest speakers, Professor Teninbaum encouraged us to "just dive in" and try new tech solutions, which I really appreciated. I am not a "techy" person and have never tried to code or use any tech solutions, staying away from it because I just thought it wasn ' t for me. While I won ' t be becoming a coder any time soon, I now feel empowered to know what these solutions are and consider the need for tech in legal practice. Very good variety of guests. Gave very comprehensive view of the legal tech field. This course has made me really consider what is important when I am looking for a future employer and career path. It just opens up a lot of possibilities that standard law school instruction would not have touched on. It exposed to me several different paths and a new way of thinking about my legal future. Thoroughly enjoyed this class and the professor. Going forward, I feel confident in my understanding of the intersection of law and technology. I can actively engage in a range of topics, such as the justice gap, and I feel well-prepared for the accelerating rise of technology in the legal profession. I also know about alternative options and how to craft different career paths, which is important in an ever-changing world.

7

What aspect(s) of the course or instruction could be improved? I wish there was more hands on instruction. I wish we learned how to do more legal tech. The one thing I wish might have been different was the amount of tangible skills we learned. While the guest speakers were amazing, once it came time to do the final project, I felt a bit overwhelmed because we had not learned how to use many tech tools. If we even had 1-2 classes reserved to our final project, or a demo of sorts for different tech tools, it would have been that much more helpful in preparing to execute our final project, which we will be graded on. N/A Prof. Teninbaum was great None. I feel nothing can be improved about this course or about Professor Teninbaum. There is nothing I would change about this course, I think it ' s perfect as is.

8

Additional comments Generally, I think the guest speakers are great but we can certainly have less of them and more hands on in the future. Would highly recommend this class. Professor Teninbaum is an excellent educator. His knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for the subject matter made this course informative and interesting. His experience and creativity in the classroom encouraged participation and made it a fun environment. I appreciated the questions he posed, especially to guest speakers. Professor Teninbaum set clear expectations and facilitated a respectful, professional environment. He was always responsive and always available outside of class. I would highly recommend this course and Professor Teninbaum to anyone.

Below are the responses to the three open-ended questions asked regarding the instructor and the course. Please note, student responses have not been edited in any way. Blank pages indicate no response for that question. What aspect(s) of the course or instruction enhanced your learning? I love this class because it seeks to apply the substantive law we ' ve learned throughout law school to real world scenarios, and uses our personal experiences as a backbone for what we ' re learning. I feel like it has really given me confidence in the legal field in a way my other classes didn ' t. I like when we all discuss our cases, it helps to hear what other people are doing and makes me more interested in the material.

6

In what way(s) did this course benefit your professional or intellectual development? I definitely feel like I have a better understanding of what it means to be a lawyer after this class. Prof Matthews is a great mentor when it comes to our clinic work. He really helps us to work through problems and is clearly enthusiastic for the program and material.

7

What aspect(s) of the course or instruction could be improved? I wish we had spent more time in class on the substantive housing law and how to use Clio. I also think it would be helpful to have a class early on that discusses more of what to expect at Lawyer for a Day. In some ways, the seminar portion feels like a repeat of Business of Practice.

8

Additional comments maybe providing some reading on the housing law over the summer? it was really overwhelming at the start of clinic to not only ave to learn the processes and take on cases, but also not know the law

Below are the responses to the three open-ended questions asked regarding the instructor and the course. Please note, student responses have not been edited in any way. Blank pages indicate no response for that question. What aspect(s) of the course or instruction enhanced your learning? Discussion Broaden my understanding of access issues. I loved that there were speakers coming in from different areas of law and politics relevant to the course material. The readings were great and informative and I appreciated the guest speakers. I think our professor did a great job of covering a variety of topics and how they all intersect to give us a very realistic view of how access to justice plays out in the real world. She always allowed time for and encouraged discussion on these topics as well, which provided the opportunity for us to flesh out our thoughts on each subject and engage with other perspectives. She also assigned readings that were very informative and engaging, as well as reasonable in length. The second half of the course involved many guest speakers who brought a new perspective to discussions surrounding access to justice and potential career paths. The group projects facilitated critical thinking surrounding access to justice issues and showcased peers perspectives on the topics. the reading were daring and challenging. They were really rooted in tools that we can take to become attorneys. Professor Johnson was great in this class. I thought her hands on experience with GBLS really helped me learn more about what we were learning in class. Additionally, her passion for the course helped enhance my learning, it ' s always better to learn from a professor that cares about what they ' re teaching.

6

In what way(s) did this course benefit your professional or intellectual development? The entire course Provided me further room to grow and areas of inclusion to consider that I had not previously. It gave me more skills to reflect on the system I hope to improve, along with skills on reflecting about my communication skills with individuals from different backgrounds than me. I think it helped me start the process of minimizing my own biases and recognizing when others need to have theirs checked. Professor Johnson was always honest and open about how these topics played out in real life, she was vulnerable with us by providing her own experiences with access to justice issues and how she ' s seen things play out in the real world and I really appreciated that, I think it gave the topics we discussed more weight. This class reminded me why I wanted to go to law school in the first place, and focused on part of the legal field that I am passionate about. I really enjoyed the guest lecturers who were brought into this course. It was a wide variety of guest lecturers which helped give different perspectives on the topics.

7

What aspect(s) of the course or instruction could be improved? require this class--larger pool of students

Inclusion of Presenter was extremely insightful and brought a realistic perspective of A2J issues however more of an introduction to the topic prior to the presentation would allow for more developed dialog. I would have liked to write more for class. It was rare for Prof. Johnson to respond to my emails. The syllabus said work that is worthy of an ' A ' gets an "A ' . I don ' t know what this means when none of my emails are answered and i ' ve gotten zero feedback on any work I ' ve submitted/presentations given in class. While a final presentation worth a huge part of our grade was in the syllabus, no info was given on the project until the week before it was due--which really puts a burden on evening students who had to develop an entire presentation over the two-day weekend. I would have preferred to have a semester-long project with class meetings to provide update on research and ideas and get feedback from our peers on their suggestions. Also, If I ' m paying for a two-hour class, then class can go two hours. Class ended after 1 hour 75% of the time. Only thing I can think of is that I wish the class was larger, so more people could be involved in our discussions, but that is obviously not controlled by the professor. The class was a bit disorganized. The announcements at the end of class for what would be covered next class was often wrong (at least at the beginning of the semester). What was due for assignments was often confusing or unclear as we did not alway follow the syllabus. While I enjoyed the class alot, Ms. Johnson could improve in her directions. In the final I felt lost, and so did my other peers. We all emailed her for more clarity and did not receive a response back. Again I understand that Ms. Johnson is busy but it made the final confusing. Overall I thought professor Johnson did great with this course, no changes.

8

Additional comments Overall an amazing class I would recommend to anyone at Suffolk. I think incorporating ideas taught here into other classes is critical to improving the legal field. I wish Prof. Johnson had done more facilitation in class around discussions, and challenged some of the statements being made in class, or pushed for students to better explain themselves, or assigned students to rebut other students ' statements (like a debate forum) for example. There were some wild things that were said in class like "all white people are super rich" or "lawyers should only represent people of the same race/background as them" and none of these statements were challenged by the professor. Professor did not effectively provide feedback for reflection journals, which left me concerned that the professor did not receive them, although they were sent via email and thus must have been delivered. Professor felt unreachable outside of class. One time when I reached out she did not respond to my individual email, but instead addressed the whole class. I would have preferred if she just responded to let me know that she had received it and should have addressed it in her subsequent email. This course should be considered as a mandatory course at Suffolk along with diversity and inclusion. As a person who plans in going into business law, i found this eye opening and i think its a course many students at Suffolk could learn from.

Below are the responses to the three open-ended questions asked regarding the instructor and the course. Please note, student responses have not been edited in any way. Blank pages indicate no response for that question. What aspect(s) of the course or instruction enhanced your learning? Professor Bromley organized a curriculum that made complex material accessible. His class lectures brought clarity to the reading. His guest speakers were perfectly on point and brought tedious material to life. It was really great to have so many guest speakers come to class. Very clear The real-life cases, scenarios, videos, pictures, and guest speakers were both interesting and made the law easier to digest and come alive. Professor Bromley brought in several guest speakers to help discuss different areas of the course given their experience and expertise, which was very interesting and helpful to hear from different people with different prospectives. Professor Bromley consistently made himself available for extra help, was extremely responsive. One of the best professors I have ever had. Prof. Bromley is certainly a great expert in the field and I learned a lot from his anecdotes and the interesting guest speakers he brought in to class.

6

In what way(s) did this course benefit your professional or intellectual development? It broadened my understanding of the pieces of the broader trade market. I thought the class focused on a really practical approach to Admiralty Law which I appreciated. It wasn ' t so casebook-heavy and rather emphasized the day-to-day of being an admiralty attorney. I learned a ton of info more generally about vessels as well as the government agencies that have oversight of marine activities (i.e., coast guard). As someone who isn ' t very good with engineering or knowledgable about "ship lingo" I was able to get a better handle on what issues might arise, and how the law would address those issues. While I took this class for fun, admiralty law seems like a unique, interesting practice area that would be neat down the road to explore a little more.

7

What aspect(s) of the course or instruction could be improved? Nothing. This class was one of the best I have taken at Suffolk. I wish there was an admiralty II class to keep going with the material. I ' m not sure that this can be improved (or maybe I just went overboard (no pun int....well maybe intended a little)) but some weeks I had more reading for this class than my other 4-hour classes. That said, the reading definitely was needed to understand the concepts so no regrets and I think it should remain the same because I think any seemingly extra material was needed for me personally to understand and great practice getting a comprehensive look at distinguished cases in the footnotes. This class had really heavy reading that was sometimes lightly discussed in class.

8

Additional comments Professor Bromley is an excellent teacher. The best I have seen yet at Suffolk. Great professor - favorite class at Suffolk so far. It ' s nice to have a professor who actively practices law for a day job. It creates a more realistic environment with less of the school fluffyness. I will be putting this class to use immediately! Thank you.

Below are the responses to the three open-ended questions asked regarding the instructor and the course. Please note, student responses have not been edited in any way. Blank pages indicate no response for that question. What aspect(s) of the course or instruction enhanced your learning? Everything about the class is great, I couldn’t even pick one or two things to highlight. The discussion board was helpful to analyze the material in greater depth. Anything confusing we read about was explained clearly the next class. Really thought provoking around the concept of civil procedure, especially that there are different ideas and views on why the adversary system exists, what is its purpose, and how the rules of civil procedure affect that purpose. The power points and class discussion helped enhance my learning. Professor Simard is lovely and I always enjoy her enthusiasm and knowledge about the subject. As someone who struggles to participate in class, I really enjoyed the opportunity to participate through the discussion posts. It was a great way to reflect on the readings prior to class and helped facilitate the discussion. Uploading comments on Blackboard before class - it seemed to really help break everyone out of their shells and encourage them to actually engage with the class. The discussion posts in response to readings helped keep me accountable with my work but also helped me understand the topics more by commenting/summarizing them in my own words.
