LAW COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

LAW-2117 Public Interest Law Seminar Prof. David C. Yamada, 3 credits day; 3 credits evening.

This seminar-style course is especially for students interested in public interest law and the use of law and public policy to create positive change. We will discuss, among other things: The institutional settings for public interest practice (non-profit, public, and for-profit), individual vs. cause-oriented lawyering, processes for law & policy development (legislation, administrative law, and litigation), individual career planning, and the role of legal education. Evaluation is based on class participation and written work. The workshop may be used to fulfill the upper level writing requirement, and it may qualify for the classroom component of an internship done for credit. (Students who have taken Prof. Yamada's Public Interest Law Seminar and Law & Public Policy Seminar may not enroll in this course.)
