Fall 2020 Course Evaluations

Below are the responses to the three open-ended questions asked regarding the instructor and the course. Please note, student responses have not been edited in any way. Blank pages indicate no response for that question. What aspect(s) of the course or instruction enhanced your learning? I really liked Judge Ricciuti's method for cold calling. I liked being in person, and it allowed me to more focused as compared to Zoom classes. Judge Ricciuti is an amazing professor and really made the class interesting. It was easy to pay attention and I learned a lot. I liked the panel for cold calling, and I also liked his practice tips. I feel like I learned more skills than just understanding criminal procedure. Having a textbook that Judge Ricciutti create himself was very helpful and the text was easier to understand than most others. Keeping students accountable by making them on call The Judge's experience on both the defense and prosecutorial sides offered useful insight to how certain matters could play out in the realworld. The Judge also stated in his syllabus, and practiced in class, engaging students even if we were not prepared. Rather than try to embarrass folks, he would just ask a hypo relevant to the case and we could see how our thinking aligned (Or didn't) with that of the Court. Judge Ricciutis coldcalling style is sublime. It promotes actual open discussion. Being on call in his class was not something to fear. It was pure encouragement from Judge Ricciuti during cold calls. The style of coldcalling was the best I've encountered at Suffolk. There was no pressure to be able to regurgitate certain case or concept details when on call. This made the class much more lowpressure and made it easier to focus on the actual material being taught rather than being ready for just the cold call.
